Theatre Club
Welcome to South Street Theatre Club!
Theatre Club is an informal setting where fans of theatre can chat about what they've just watched at South Street, enjoy a drink from our bar and sometimes get to meet the creative talent behind the show and ask questions. You don’t have to be a seasoned theatre-goer to join in, or know bags about performance; just be open to some new theatrical experiences and making some new friends!
Joining in couldn’t be easier – book yourself a ticket to a Theatre Club performance, watch the show, and then meet us in the bar afterwards to talk about what we’ve just seen. Each Theatre Club will be facilitated by a guest host, but the conversation can go wherever you take it.
FAQs
How do I join Theatre Club?
You don't really need to "join", just meet us in the bar after the performance, where you’re more than welcome to join the discussion.
If you'd like to receive our monthly Theatre News emails, which will keep you up to date on our upcoming shows and Theatre Clubs, make sure you're signed up to receive emails.
Do I need to know anything about theatre?
No! If you do know a bit about theatre and performance, that’s great, but if you’re completely new, that’s absolutely fine too. If you loved it, or you didn’t “get it”; if it left you puzzled, or enthralled – let’s talk about it. There are no wrong answers.
What is the host for?
First things first, the host isn’t there to dictate what you talk about. The host is there to keep the conversation flowing, and make sure that everyone who has something to say has the opportunity to say it.
Will anyone from the show be there?
Where possible, we will invite people from the visiting company to come out and meet you, to take questions and give you more background to the show, for a short while before they take their leave. Then you will have space to discuss the piece on your terms. This is because Theatre Club is about YOU. Your opinions and reactions to the performance, not necessarily what the creators were thinking about when they made the piece. Theatre Club is a relaxed place where you can say what you really thought, without worrying that the people who made it are listening!
Do I have to say something?
Theatre Club is, foremost, a discussion group. If you have something to share, we’d love to hear it. But if you’re feeling a bit nervous, and don’t want to say anything, no one’s going to force you.
Do I have to stay for the whole thing?
No. We’re very laid back, and the conversation will last as long as it lasts. Anyone is free to leave at any point, you absolutely don’t have to stay to the end.
