Dance Reading present Ruins & Happy Father's Day

Double bill of dance from Fubunation and Dani Harris-Walters

Double bill of dance featuring:

RUINS (extract)
by FUBUNATION

In this extract from their powerful and beautiful series Ruins, Rhys Dennis and Waddah Sinada open a dialogue surrounding the myth of masculinity as it is felt within the Pan-African diaspora. FUBUNATION are deconstructing the power struggle within themselves and finding the balance between conflict, vulnerability, and co-dependency. By doing so, they own and repair their deeper anxieties that they have learned so well to mask. This work is a testimony of the generational trauma inherited by men from marginalised groups with the mission of creating a space where the black male figure is more visible & honestly represented in its full complexity.

FUBUNATION is a dance organisation directed by choreographers Rhys Dennis, Waddah Sinada and creative producer Steph Be. Their aim is to encourage diversity in dance by sharing openly and authentically their own rich experiences as black men.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
by Dani Harris-Walters

Happy Father’s Day is a heart-stirring, funny, coming-of-age piece which provides the unconventional puberty lesson you’ll wish you’d had at school. With spot-on comedic timing, Dani uses movement, rap, animation and spoken word to focus on sexual coupling from an unexpected point of view.

Dani Harris-Walters is an exceptional performer, choreographer, director and innovator immersed in hip-hop culture and theatre.

“Happy Father's Day is a fully-fledged theatrical triumph...It was all performed with the engaging and uninhibited charm of a seasoned professional.” Graham Watts, Chairman of the Critics' Circle: Dance Section
