I, AmDram by Hannah Maxwell

presented on tour by House Theatre

A hilarious ode to all things amateur dramatics.

“I need to do a not-very-complicated set change… but I want this to be authentic, so… can I please have a long and awkward blackout.”

Join Hannah Maxwell (“A Generation Z Caroline Aherne!” - To Do List) on the train home to Hertfordshire and settle in for a joy-filled hour of amdram anecdotes, musical parodies and very basic choreography, drawn from her family’s illustrious 90-year history with the Welwyn Thalians Musical & Dramatic Society.

Making her prodigal return to suburbia, Maxwell thinks back to 2010: My Fair Lady, and her final year doing am-dram. Harmonising over dinner, rehearsing with mum, coming out as gay (a much less traumatic experience than her woeful audition for the role of Eliza).

I, AMDRAM has charmed audiences across the UK, Australia and Europe, from lifelong thesps who know every line, to those who’ve never trod a board or sung a Sondheim.

Told through comedy, music, spoken word and Gilbert & Sullivan references, this pitch-perfect piece of storytelling theatre minds the gap between the identities we assert and the worlds we leave.
