Reading Swing Jam
Reading Swing Jam (RSJ) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and enriching our growing swing dance community by hosting dance classes, social dances, workshops and events. We currently host the following swing dance classes in Reading:
MONDAYS EVENINGS - SOLO JAZZ & CHARLESTON
7.15pm, upstairs at the Rising Sun Arts Centre
During this fun and informal weekly class we explore Solo Jazz and Charleston moves that developed from Jazz eras of the 1920s-1950s. We work on developing step and variation repertoire, incorporating dance and rhythm technique as well as improvisation and creative skills. We also regularly cover classic and modern jazz choreographies well known to the swing dance community, including the Charleston Stroll, Shim Sham and Tranky Doo and more! These classes are great for both complete newbies to vintage dancing and those already learning partnered swing dances such as the Lindy Hop. You’ll also have a chance to join in and perform what you learn when strolls are played as part of our monthly Reading Swing Jam social!
These weekly classes are generally taught short courses or blocks, so on this What's On Reading site you'll see the start dates for these courses only. Joining our RSJ Solo Jazz & Charleston facebook group is the best way to find more detailed information about what we’re teaching and when’s the best time to join the group.
WEDNESDAYS EVENINGS - LINDY HOP
with Reading University Swing Dance Society at Wessex Hall, University of Reading
Join us on Wednesday evenings to learn partner dances from the 1920’s-50’s: RUSDS classes are open to both students and non-students alike! No partner necessary! Partners are rotated regularly throughout the class. These classes run weekly on Wednesday evenings during term-time only. Please visit the RUSDS webpage or Facebook Group for full details about classes, times, prices, venue and how to contact the group.
Last chance to join us for the Autumn term will be on Wednesday 6th November. After that date, keep an eye on our website or facebook page for news of our next crash course workshop that'll bring you up to speed to join us in the next term.
