Join Reading Symphony Orchestra for our winter concert in the beautiful surroundings of the Concert Hall.
The programme will begin with Debussy's enchanting Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune. When first performed, this dreamlike piece was unlike anything ever heard before and, in the words of Pierre Boulez, it 'made the art of music begin to beat with a new pulse.' We'll then be performing Walton's Viola Concerto, for which we are delighted to be joined by Edgar Francis. Edgar, who leads the Violas for the Sinfonia of London, has performed in leading venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, Wignore Hall, Kölner Philharmonie and The Royal Festival Hall. As First Prize Winner at the prestigious Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition in 2021, Edgar's debut album will be released on Champs Hill records. The concert will conclude with Berlioz's epic Symphonie Fantastique, a symphonic masterpiece of passion, obsession and the supernatural.
