The Saxophone, and My Life as an Army Musician

A talk to Reading u3a by Jon Woodhouse (ex-HM Lifeguards)

Fans of the music of woodwind instruments will be in for a treat with this talk (and demonstration) on The Saxophone, and my Life as an Army Musician. The speaker, Jon Woodhouse, joined the Army as a musician aged 16, served in Her Majesty’s Lifeguards Band for 25 years, and now plays saxophone and clarinet with various local bands.

During his time with the Lifeguards, Jon enjoyed a long and varied musical career playing clarinet (including on horseback), bass clarinet and saxophone at many high-profile events. He has also participated in concert tours across Europe, America and Japan. In 1999 Jon retired from the Army but still plays and teaches.

Jon`s talk will include something of his experiences and the people he met during his long career. He will also bring along various instruments to demonstrate. He's the guest of Reading u3a for this open meeting - free entry, non-members welcome. Visit readingu3a.org.uk.
