Summer Reading Challenge - Ready, Set, READ!

From 8 Jul

The Summer Reading Challenge Ready, Set, Read! launches on Saturday 8th July and libraries across Reading Borough will be taking part.

The annual scheme, organised nationally by The Reading Agency, encourages children to read six books over the long holiday. This year’s challenge runs until Saturday 3rd September and the Reading agency has teamed up with Youth Sport Trust to bring you a sports and games themed Summer Reading Challenge that will encourage children aged 4-11 to pick up a book and love reading over the summer holidays. By taking part in the Challenge, children will be encouraged to keep their minds and bodies active.

They will team up with mascots brought to life by children’s author and illustrator Loretta Schauer, as they navigate a fictional obstacle course and track their reading. Every child will earn stickers and incentives along the way and when they finish be presented with a medal and a certificate!

Children can also sign up for the online Challenge at Summer Reading Challenge  and set personal goals for the summer, unlocking rewards along the way. They will receive book recommendations and tips for accessing books for free at home and can earn digital rewards, such as a certificate to print at home.
