Portsmouth-based Baby Said, an exciting new rock outfit fronted by Italian/Punjabi teenage sisters Veronica and Jess Pal, hit the music scene with their first official releasesin 2023. However, the sisters’ musical journey has been a long time in the making, with Veronica picking up the acoustic guitar at six, inspired by church musicians and Jess starting on the guitar at four before transitioning to bass after witnessing Måneskin’s electrifying performance at Sanremo in 2021.
This formative experience not only influenced their musical direction but also inspired their band’s name, Baby Said, after their favourite Måneskin song. Then joined by Holly Knowles on rhythm guitar and backing vocals and Maddie Hackett on drums, Baby Said completed their lineup as a quartet.
Despite their youth, Veronica and Jess have performed over 200 gigs across the UK with their previous covers band, Astro Moda, showcasing their live performance panache. Signing with Big Hug Management and legendary booking agent Lucia Wade at ITB, the band has begun working with some of the UK’s leading indie rock and pop producers, including Gethin Pearson, known for his work with Bloc Party and Badly Drawn Boy - plasticmag.co.uk
