BBC Introducing: Maddie Ashman / Wynona / Cat Marina

Update from BBC Introducing: We've unfortunately had to cancel this show due to illness of 2/3 acts, and 1/1 BBC Introducing presenters 🤒

Alex West and Nicky Booty from BBC Introducing Berkshire highlight upcoming local artists, giving you the chance to see the hottest new music in Berkshire. This time out, Newbury's Maddie Ashman is joined by Joe Hicks and Cat Marina for a cosy night of pop.

Opening the night is Andover's Cat Marina. A producer, writer and multi-instrumentalist, Cat has amassed over a million streams online; alongside being featured on nationwide media outlets including BBC Radio 1, Amazon Prime and video game Pro Evolution Soccer. His music is quirky indie pop: a mix of left-field electronic beats and insightful self-reflecting lyrics; embedded by his prolific ability to craft hook-filled pop songs. Influenced by artist/producers such as James Blake, Athlete and Mr Hudson, his writing is more personal and biographical than ever before.

Next up, Swallowfield's Wynona will join us for a chill acoustic set. After returning to the UK from Osaka at the onset of the pandemic, Wynona set about writing "blissful, romanticised bedroom-pop". Brilliant lyricists, they have since been played multiple times on Radio 1's Future Artists by Jack Saunders, and have supported the likes of King No-One, and local legends The Amazons.

Finally, Maddie Ashman, our Artist In Residence for February 2023, takes to the stage. Maddie had a big 2022, first being picked as Tom Robinson's Tip on BBC Radio 6Music, then being a runner up in the BBC Radio 1 Introducing Live Lounge competition, before following that up with an appearance on the BBC Introducing Stage at Latitude Festival which was one of the most attended sets of the weekend. She's since supported Tom Rosenthal and Alfie Templeman live, and her unique combination of cello and vocals makes her an always interest-piquing listen.
