Wonders of the Waterways!

A fun packed afternoon for all ages, with waterway wildlife art and craft, free boat rides and a guided walk.

Join Nature Nurture and friends for a wonderful waterway afternoon, on the bank of the River Kennet just 2 minutes from Reading town centre.

Wednesday 11th October 2.30 - 6.30pm

Thanks to funding from Reading Borough Council and Reading Business Improvement District, there'll be an array of fun waterway activities for all ages, in a little green space nestled beside the River Kennet.

  • Help us select the 'Seven Wonders of the Waterways' - which creatures will win the votes to feature as giant artworks on the bridge? Cast your votes.
  • Wild Waterways Art with Nature Nurture - make and take activities for all ages.
  • Wildlife Quest - with Nature Nurture
  • Free Boat Rides with The Kennet & Avon Canal Trust - a 45-minute trip through the Oracle and around the Forbury Loop aboard the 12 seater narrowboat 'Matilda Too' at 3pm, 4pm, and 5pm.
  • Local guided history walk 2.30pm with Terry's Reading Walkabouts - join a friendly walk and discover fascinating snippets from the past.
  • Look to the Future! with Commando Jugendstil using “Augmented Analogue Reality”. (stick frames and acetate), you get to ‘re-frame’ the riverside. Draw and paint your potential sustainable future for our town.
  • Look after our waterways - Meet the Canal & River Trust and find out how you can help look after our waterways.

Join in the fun and find our more about the 'Seven Wonders of the Waterways' project and how you can help shape the planned improvements to the area. As part of this, we would like to connect with local residents, businesses and our townsfolk to take on board their ideas.

Guided Walk details: Terry from Terry's Reading Walkabouts will be joining us to lead a guided walk of the area, focusing on the rich history of the area around the Kennet and Avon Canal and its role in growing trade in Reading . The walk will last around 1 hour and will be suitable for all. The walk will start at 12 noon, please arrive 10 minutes early for registration.
