Jean Toussaint Quartet: Jean Toussaint soprano and tenor saxophones, Peter Billington piano, Paul Jefferies bass and Simon Price drums

Jean Toussaint, giant of the soprano and tenor saxophones and former Art Blakey Jazz Messenger, makes a welcome return to Jazz at Progress as the guest artist with a superb rhythm section comprising Peter Billington piano,  Paul Jefferies bass and Simon Price drums.

Originally from St. Thomas in the US Virgin Island, Jean left Berklee College of Music, Boston in 1982 to join Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers for an inspired four and   a half years working with musicians such as Terence Blanchard and Mulgrew Miller. He also worked with Gil Evans, McCoy Tyner and Wynton Marsalis.

Jean left Blakey in 1987 to come to England for a few months. He stayed ...

Since that time Jean has made an indelible mark on the UK scene. He has toured with visiting Americans, appeared at clubs and festivals, led his own bands and projects, recorded and broadcast prolifically, earned numerous awards and inspired a generation of musicians through his tireless work in jazz education.

It is both a privilege and a pleasure to welcome him to Jazz at Progress
