AGM and Autumn Lecture

The 2022 Friends of Reading Abbey Annual General Meeting and Autumn Lecture will be held on Saturday 29th October beginning at 2.30pm. It will take place in the Abbey Baptist Church, Abbey Square, Reading, RG1 3BE - behind Reading Central Library. Doors will open at 2.00pm.

The lecture will be given by Chris Darbyshire on the subject Reading's Last Abbot, Hugh Cook Faringdon. Chris has a keen interest in local history and has recently published a book on Hugh Faringdon. In this study of the charges against Faringdon and his two co-accused, and the conduct and outcome of the trial, Chris has brought a forensic approach to the dramatic and tragic events which happened in Reading nearly 500 years ago.
