Join us on 10th December at 5:30pm for a magical winter lantern procession for everybody in the community. Walk together in lantern light and follow the glowing fireflies as they dance their way along Broad Street to Forbury Gardens. This will be a heart-warming celebration of the festive season filled with lights, music and community spirit.
*PLEASE NOTE: Only lanterns made at our workshops will be permitted to be part of the parade - no home-made or candle lanterns will be allowed.*
Route
The parade will start at the Oxford Road end of Broad Street (outside the old Clas Ohlson building) and make its way along Broad Street, through Market Place to Forbury Gardens for a musical finale.
Access
The Reading Lantern Parade is free for all ages. The procession will move at a slow walking pace and accessible viewing areas will be available in Forbury Gardens.
Weather
This event takes place outdoors and will go ahead in light rain, so please dress appropriately for the weather.
Lantern making workshops
In the run up to the event lantern making workshops will be held across Reading so that everybody has the opportunity to come along and make their own beautiful willow and paper lantern for the procession. Each lantern workshop last two hours and will be supported by professional artists who will show you how to make your lantern and where to come on the day of the procession.
Reading buses will also be providing discounted travel from locations outside of the town centre for anybody coming in to take part in the procession with a lantern (travel vouchers will be given to those attending the workshops).
