Reading Lantern Parade – Dance Of The Fireflies

On the 10th December, a magical winter lantern procession for everybody in the community will take place in Reading town centre.

A heart-warming celebration of the festive season filled with lights, music and community spirit. Walk together in lantern light and follow the glowing fireflies as they dance their way along Broad Street to Forbury Gardens.

Lantern Making Workshops

In the run up to the event lantern making workshops will be held across Reading so that everybody has the opportunity to come along and make their own beautiful willow and paper lantern for the procession. Each lantern workshop last two hours and will be supported by professional artists who will show you how to make your lantern and where to come on the day of the procession.

Reading buses will also be providing discounted travel from locations outside of the town centre for anybody coming in to take part in the procession with a lantern (travel vouchers will be given to those attending the workshops)

The procession will move at a slow walking pace and accessible viewing areas will be available in Forbury Gardens.

Whitley Wood Community Centre is accessible for wheelchair users with accessible facilities. For more information or if you have any questions please email us at

Reading Lantern Parade is brought to you by Reading Improvement Districts representing business in the town centre through REDA, Beautiful Creatures Theatre, Jelly and AV Events. The event is supported by Reading Borough Council, Reading Buses, 101 Outdoor Arts, The Broad Street Mall, Black & White Music Ltd and Blue Collar Food.
