UPDATE

The limited number of tickets for this event have all been booked. But you can watch the ceremony online when we livestream the event on our Facebook page

============================

Reading will be holding a special Beacon Lighting Ceremony on Thursday 2 June 2022 – from 9.15pm onwards in the Abbey Ruins.

This event will be part of a country-wide celebration in which 1,500 beacons will be lit in recognition of the Queen’s service, bringing communities across the globe together to pay tribute. We will have the pleasure of welcoming Pipe Major Alan Vaughn from the Reading Scottish Pipe Band who will be playing a piece called ‘Diu Regnare’, a traditional piping piece and in addition to this, we will also be welcoming the Reading Male Voice Choir who will be performing ‘A Song for the Commonwealth’, a piece which has been especially composed for this event.

Attendance is free but ticketed due to the limited spaces available.

Ticket Holders:
Please arrive from 9:15pm at the Kiosk gates to the Forbury Gardens.
Your tickets will be checked here before a member of staff will lead you to the Abbey Ruins for the Ceremony.
This short event will include a welcome from the Mayor of Reading, Cllr Rachel Eden and Deputy Lieutenant, Felicity Rutland, alongside contributions from Reading Scottish Pipe Band, The Berkshire Cadet Unit and Reading Male Voice Choir before the Jubilee Beacon is lit.
The Ceremony will be followed by a brief drinks reception in the Dormitory of the Ruins.
