Royal Berks Charity Announces Walk For Wards Event To Raise Funds For Special Care Baby Unit

Royal Berks Charity is excited to announce its annual ‘Walk for Wards’ event, a community-driven fundraiser.  This year, our event is dedicated to raising essential funds for the purchase of new incubators for Buscot ward, the neonatal unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, which provides specialised care for premature and critically ill babies. Working in partnership with Babies in Buscot Support (BIBS) the charities hope to make a significant difference to the care and experience for those who spend time on the ward.

Event details:

  • Date: Sunday 29th September
  • Time: Walk starts 10.30am
  • Location: Mapledurham Estate

Walk for Wards promises to be a day filled with fun, fitness, and philanthropy as participants come together to support one of the hospital's most critical units. The event will feature three different walking routes, a 5km,10km and 15km suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and brand new for 2024, our Scavenger Hunt; approximately 2km of easy walking and simple activities, perfect for little legs and enquiring minds, ensuring everyone can join in for this important cause.

The collaboration with BIBS on this fundraising effort will ensure resources are maximised for the common goal of purchasing as many incubators as possible. BIBS has been a committed supporter of Buscot ward for many years, helping to enhance the care and facilities available to newborns and their families.

Jo Warrior Charity Director for the Royal Berks Charity said: "We are thrilled to be hosting our walk for wards event again this year and for such a special cause.  We are incredibly grateful for the support of BIBS. The funds raised will make a significant difference in the lives of the babies and families who spend time on Buscot ward. We encourage everyone in the community to join us for a wonderful day of walking and giving back to a local cause."

Sarah Critchley, Chief Executive of BIBS, is delighted to add their fundraising efforts towards the initiative. “We have a long history of working closely with our friends at the Royal Berks Charity, especially in regard to funding new medical equipment for Buscot ward to help ensure the best possible start in life for sick and premature newborns. I am passionate about working together, as we can achieve so much more in collaboration. Our charity raised enough funds for one new incubator earlier this year, and we are so happy to know the Walk for Wards event will help raise the funds needed for even more incubators.”
