The Building of Reading - the geology of the area and its impact
A talk to BIAG designed to complement the geological walk on 6th September, but also able to stand alone.
Geologically, the original centre of Reading is sited at the confluence of the Kennet and Thames rivers on raised, well drained younger Thames river gravels. The local geology was important for the town; bricks might be considered the fourth B in association with beer, bulbs and biscuits. We will see how the apparent unremarkable surface geology masks the evidence for a more complex and tempestuous history and how it impacted the town. A talk by a local geologist, Dr Ross Garden.
