South Street Youth Theatre offers young people the opportunity to develop drama skills in a relaxed and fun environment. Led by experienced, professional tutors the groups will work towards performances which are then staged at South Street's professionally run main theatre space.
The emphasis is on the imagination and creativity of the young people, so all their performances are devised, written and performed by them in collaboration with the directors. As well as performing at South Street, in recent years the young people have taken a show to the Edinburgh Fringe, created a show for a bus and a "promenade" performance through South Street.
"[My daughter] started in year 2 as a very timid, young girl. When she was first on stage she would cower and whisper on stage. Now in year 6, aged 11, she is confident to be on stage and happy to speak loudly ... I credit it to [South Street's] drama sessions. It has made a big difference in her life, allowing her to partake in many more activities and to really enjoy doing them. I’m sure she has also made friends that she’ll keep for life. Thank you so much."
