A Small Gathering of Altered Books by Mary Riley

A selection of Mary Riley’s altered books will be exhibited on the ground floor main room of the centre.

As part of Bookface this year, we share our love for Mary Riley who left us in January 2011. Mary was an artist, psychiatric nurse and art therapist. She loved people and was a great supporter of the local art groups and events in Reading.

Mary worked on her altered books in her studios at home in her front room and at Open Space (Oxford Road). On the pages she made drawings and used photographs, printmaking, papercutting, painting, collage, threads and found objects, creating beautiful and thought provoking books.
