BBC Introducing: THE MEZZ / MIYA MIYA / doops
Alex West and Nicky Booty from BBC Introducing Berkshire highlight upcoming local artists, giving you the chance to see the hottest new music in Berkshire.
Opening the night are Reading's closest thing to Radiohead: doops. Over the past six years, they've honed their sound to create a blistering combination of hard beats and space riffs which land firmly in a leftfield alternative space. Also with punk & psychedelic undertones, their sound will appeal to fans of Q.O.T.S.A, Tame Impala & The Clash.
Next up, MIYA MIYA. Comprised of lead vocalists Gini and Jordan, guitarist Gio and drummer James, this group thrive off a creative commitment to their artistry that’s unique in today’s industry. With a self-contained approach to writing, producing, mixing and visual content making, they’ve created a signature sound that’s both cinematic and nostalgic, while sounding completely fresh. MIYA MIYA’s songs, features & co-writes have gone on to amass a whopping 100M+ streams since their debut in 2020. Earning acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, Wonderland, The Independent, Clash, MIYA MIYA have also won key backing from Spotify’s New Music Friday, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing to position them as a key band on the rise.
Finally, our Artists In Residence for March 2023, THE MEZZ, take to the stage. Based across Berkshire and Oxfordshire, these four have come together to form a truly phenomenal live act. Their songwriting draws on the likes of Sam Fender, Catfish & The Bottlemen and The 1975, and given the way their fanbase is growing in energy and in number, you'd be a fool to rule them out of a similarly eventful career.
