Fundraiser Gig at the Butler

Three local bands are putting on an evening’s entertainment in the freshly-refurbished gig room at The Butler pub in Chatham Street Reading, on Thursday 21 July, to raise funds for the Green Party.

Reverend John H with his backing band The Revelations will be headlining the event, supported by Mike Lemin & the Midnight Rambler and the Country Moans.

The gig room at the Butler, which re-opened a few months ago, offers an intimate and atmospheric setting for bands and a small to medium-sized audience and has been equipped with a raised stage. Landlord Steve Stanton hopes the venue will prove to be a valuable asset for local musicians and performers, as well as helping to revive interest in the local live music scene, following two years of Covid lockdown.

The venue has already seen local acts including Daughter of the Water (featuring Dolly and the Clothespegs’ Sarah Lambert Gates and John Mitchell, who has toured with Marillion and It Bites) as well as long standing local legends the Highwasters and Syn City Rockers.

Admission to the event is free although the musicians hope to raise funds for the Green Party, as well as increasing awareness of the new venue amongst musicians and fans of live music.

Councillor Louise Keane who was one of 7 Green Party Councillors to be elected in this year's elections, will be presented with the proceeds after the event.

The first band will be on stage at around 8.30 and the evenings entertainment will end at 11.30 or thereabouts.
