What has six legs and will help to reduce homelessness in Reading?
…every team that takes on ‘Walkies’ our new dog walking challenge, taking place in October.
We’re looking for dynamic duos to set themselves the goal of walking 100 miles in the 31 days of October – and asking friends and family to sponsor them to help people facing housing crisis in Reading.
Impress everyone with your efforts by taking on a few long-distance treks or spread the distance across the month, walking just over three miles each day.
Don’t worry if 100 miles seems a little too far for you and/or your dog, we’re flexible so you can set whatever distance suits your ability. However far you go and however long it takes, it’s all about getting outdoors, enjoying your time with your furry best friend and raising vital funds to help us support more people in Reading who are at risk of losing their homes.
You can go it alone and spend some quality time with your pooch, or team up with friends and enjoy a chat as you raise funds for those who need it most.
Keep an eye out for details of our doggy social on World Homeless Day (10th October) so you can meet fellow challenge participants and perhaps make some new like-minded friends. We’ll have dog-themed giveaways for our top-fundraisers and those who have racked up the most miles as well as photography competitions to showcase your pooch’s best side. You won’t want to miss out on the fun.
This really is a challenge with a pawpose!
Launchpad’s pedigree
We are one of the few charitable organisations in the area who accept dogs in their properties. We know that owning a dog can be a huge support to those who have faced trauma at the hands of humans, and we strive to keep those important bonds going where we can. This and the fact most of the team are dog mad make walkies a great fit for us.
How the money you raise can help people in Reading
£10 could help pay for urgent support at our free drop-in service so an individual in housing crisis can get the help they desperately need
£50 could help pay for an hour of legal advice for a couple who have been threatened with eviction
£140 could help fund four therapy sessions for someone whose poor mental health has left them with spiralling debt and at risk of homelessness
£254 could help fund the costs of moving a family experiencing poverty into more affordable accommodation
