Sonoro Choral Inspirations

Choral Workshop and Performance with professional chamber choir Sonoro

Join us for a singing workshop day with professional chamber choir, Sonoro.

For their Choral Inspirations project, Sonoro have commissioned six composers to each write a work inspired by a ‘choral classic’. The composers are Rebecca Dale, Michael Higgins, Cecilia McDowall, Oliver Tarney, Gareth Treseder and Errollyn Wallen.

The new commissions, inspired by the music of Franck, Brahms, Lotti, Elgar, J. S. Bach and Mozart, have all been written at a suitable level for amateur choirs, without being simplistic.

Spend a day with conductor Neil Ferris, professional singers from Sonoro and the University of Reading choirs to sing choral classics and explore their newly-composed partner pieces by some of today’s top composers.

Edward Elgar/Oliver Tarney The Spirit of the Lord

W. A. Mozart/Errollyn Wallen  Ave verum corpus

César Franck/Rebecca Dale Panis Angelicus

Antonio Lotti Crucifixus a 8/Cecilia McDowall Crucifixus Re-Imagined

Johannes Brahms Geistliches Lied/Michael Higgins See, I am God

J. S. Bach/Gareth Treseder Jesu, joy of our desiring

This workshop has been designed to both challenge and inspire confidence, and participants will receive expert advice on vocal techniques and interpretation.

Participants will be supported by Sonoro singers on each voice part but some experience of reading music is required.

There will be an informal public performance at 5:30pm performed by Sonoro, University of Reading choirs and workshop participants.

Please note that participants in the workshop must be over the age of 18.

This workshop is made possible by the kind donation of The Rozanda Trust, in memory of Guy Haworth.
