The Ageing Brain: What's Normal, What's Not, and What We Can Do

Public Lecture with Dr Samrah Ahmed

Our brains change as we get older – but when does healthy ageing tip into something more serious?

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 57 million people worldwide live with dementia, a figure projected to more than double by 2050 as populations age. Behind this statistic is a fast-moving field of research reshaping how we understand risk, diagnosis and prevention.

This talk explores what happens in the healthy ageing brain, the warning signs of dementia, and the lifestyle and medical factors that shape our risk. Drawing on cutting-edge research, discover the strategies and science offering real hope for the future.
