The Mr. Misty Mystery

by Martin Clare

9 May 2024-11 May 2024

Twyford Drama has now set sail from 'Treasure Island' and left behind their panto capers. However, the comedy continues as this versatile group have swiftly launched themselves into  rehearsals for their brand new staging of a light-hearted mystery at Loddon Hall in May.

Their next production, 'The Mr. Misty Mystery' by Martin Clare, by arrangement with Lazy Bee Scripts, is simultaneously humorous and suspenseful. It is a full-length play set in the living room of a cheap flat in contemporary England. Will Jess allow her principles to be compromised when her flatmate Abbey requests her assistance with a devious scheme to solve their money problems? Can their hare-brained plan really succeed? This tale of subterfuge and revenge will test your detective skills and leave you guessing to the end as the plot becomes increasingly complex!

The director Jocelyn Robinson is not a stranger to stage direction. Jocelyn directed Twyford Drama's Terry Pratchett plays  'Wyrd Sister' in 2009 and 'Mort' in 2017, and was also Assistant Director for their production of 'The  Merchant of Venice' in 2017.

Update from rehearsals...

Twyford Drama are now halfway through rehearsals for their forthcoming production in May.  The small but active drama group are busy exploring what happens when two young women tire of their constant struggle with finances and landlords.  In ‘The Mr Misty Mystery’, loyalties and friendships are tested and animosities exposed when an opportunity to acquire the ‘Mr Misty’ painting presents itself.

It is up to Abbey to pull together a team that can carry out her plan, transform their lives and exact revenge on their oppressor.   Her devious scheming is tempered by moments of comedy, fur coats, tissues and flip charts.  The cast of six are enjoying the challenge of developing their characters and portraying the deep emotions of this intriguing storyline.

The Mr Misty Mystery was written by Martin Clare in 2014 and was intended to be presented by an amateur theatre group like Twyford Drama.  It is one of his most popular scripts and has been performed on stages around the world.

Twyford Drama have designed and built a set for this production at their base in Loddon Hall, Twyford, while some very appropriate music has been kindly provided by Shawn Roney of Mo-Mutt Music in Missouri, USA.   With creative lighting and the clever use of props and set dressing, audiences will be transported into a rundown flat, which the girls rent from the very unpleasant Mr Bellingham.

The group have put together a video, inspired by the story of the play, which can be watched by visiting the group website www.twyforddrama.co.uk.

The group are currently inviting local people to become members and get involved in continuing nearly sixty years of local theatre in Twyford.  Performing on stage is optional as there are always plenty of support roles to be filled backstage or in the planning and building stages of a production.  The group have ambitions to expand their regular programme of plays and pantomimes, so that the more people who want to come along and learn about stagecraft, the better.

In the meantime, don't miss out on an evening of fun and mystery; make your reservation early for the best seats in the house!!
