Wines of Bulgaria

This will be an informal tasting with 6 different wines to taste, a presentation on Bulgarian Wines focusing on the Thracian Lowlands.

I have a spot in my heart for Bulgarian wines, not only because my wife hails from there, but also because the people of the country are so welcoming and the wines truly represent this.

Situated in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula, Bulgaria shares latitudes with renowned wine regions like Tuscany and Bordeaux.

With a unique blend of climates, the terroir differs throughout the country: there are similarities to the Mediterranean in the south, maritime influences along the Black Sea coast, and high altitudes of up to 2000 meters above sea level.

This gives Bulgaria a wide range of different micro-climates to get the best out of their local grape varieties as well as more recognisable international ones.

Expand your palate with indigenous varieties such as Mavrud, Melnik 55 and, Sandanski Misket.

We'll also taste Bulgaria’s take on the classic grapes; such as Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
