This September, Reading’s heritage will be on show for 10 days as part of England’s annual heritage festival, Heritage Open Days. Celebrating our buildings, natural and cultural heritage, this year there will be a fantastic range of free in-person and digital events to showcase the rich stories that make Reading such a unique place to live, work and visit.

A circular walk taking in a lost jam factory, mansions and slums, listed buildings, Reading FC’s first pitch, lost pubs, brick making and much more. Donations to local charities accepted.

It will explore the history of Castle Hill and Old and New Coley over 150 years. Will will show images of the area as it was. Do you know there a Whitbread Pub was in Coley Place? What about where the Coley steps were? Illustrations will be used to explain the history and the changes to the area (from Mansions to slums) , the lost industries, people and some fascinating facts plus... A FREE GIFT!

The tour will last approximately 2 hours, with a few short inclines & descents.
