Abiola, a young Nigerian woman, from a staunch Christian family, is gay! She falls in love with her childhood best friend, Favour, also Nigerian, and happens to be a Pastor's daughter!

They begin a secret and passionate love affair that is only discovered by their mothers when they decide to surprise them at university one afternoon. They burst into Abiola's room screaming, "surprise", but they were the ones who ended up being surprised when they found Abiola and Favour in each other's arms! Surprise which turned into shock, disbelief and then utter revulsion.

"In my fear, huddled in the corner of my bed, I begun to laugh hysterically. It seemed that our mothers were trying to outdo each other with the insults. Empty water bottle. Fried rice brain. What is that? But what took the biscuit was Ghanaian jollof! I mean the jury is still out on which jollof is better. Nigerian or Ghanaian? But that is a story for another day," Abiola.

Homosexuality is still very much a taboo in African or Black households in general. It is an alien concept and the laws in African countries reflect this. In Uganda, the Anti Homosexuality Act 2023 criminalises consensual same sex relations with up to life imprisonment. In Nigeria the penalty is up to 14 years in prison and the Ghana parliament has approved a Bill that criminalises homosexual activities.
