Howling @ The Moon: Reading’s Biggest LGBTQ+ Cabaret

Your bi-annual dose of Queer chaos from local riot grrlz Dogmouth Theatre

Your local riot grrrlz are back at Rising Sun Arts Centre for the 7th instalment of Howling @ The Moon: Reading’s Biggest LGBTQ+ Cabaret🌈✨

Howling At The Moon is a bi-annual event, created to provide LGBTQ+, female and/or trans artists in Reading and the surrounding areas a platform to explore new work in front of a supportive audience, and develop their artistic practice. From live music to stand up comedy, fire-eating to striptease, Howling @ The Moon has everything from the weird to the wonderful. With a stacked lineup of variety artists, plenty of wine and enough glitter to put Lisa Frank to shame, this is the bi-annual Queer party you’ve been waiting for!

LINE UP:

SOFT PLAY: Soft Play is made up of Maria Telnikoff and Vidya Divakaran - besties/dance partners/definitely not in a relationship. They are revving up for their debut double act show, 'Just The Two Of Us!', where they play every great duo in history, from Romulus and Remus to WHAM!

Isabella Thompson as DJ CHARLIE: A fan favourite, the character DJ Charlie was discovered in the process of developing her critically acclaimed solo show, 'Plaything' (The Pleasance, Lambeth Fringe, Twisty Turny Theatre, The Drayton Arms Theatre) and has been performed as a drag act in his own right ever since, much to everyone's delight. Isabella is a multidisciplinary performer, theatre-maker and movement director who creates art that is absurd, radically honest, and fiercely original.

RACHEL ISOBEL HERITAGE: Actor, Theatre Maker and founder of Lockdown Projections Theatre Company. In recent years her work has been heavily inspired by her experience as a Stripper of nearly 5 years. Her company debuted ‘Whiplash’ - a dynamic new play by Rachel, about the current state of the UK Strip Club industry, and the immense bond of camaraderie that can be found within it - at Camden Fringe Festival last summer. Her new act is a solo cabaret piece, incorporating the original monologues that birthed Whiplash. As well as spicy dancing and slapstick comedy and audience interaction, of course.

YAEL ELISHEVA: Yael is a multidisciplinary theatre-maker, writer, and drag artist. Their work focuses on the intersections of Jewishness and queerness. As a drag artist, they’ve performed with The Enby Show, Glastonbury, RVT, The Yard, The Divine, and Jewish community centres. Their recent one-person drag comedy show, The Wise Men, sold out at Soho Theatre this past February. Their debut full-length play, This is the Story of Ayal & Noah’s Trip to Elk Neck, was long-listed for the 2025 Tony Craze Award and selected to be read as part of Omnibus Theatre’s Engine Write Room.

FRANKIE HEARTLESS: Frankie is delighted to be back at Howling at the Moon, bringing high energy electric violin playing, soaring vocals and a very silly sense of humour. They also lead their own pirate band “Frankie Heartless & The Heartless Rogues”, all alongside running the Honor Oak Shanty Choir. They originally trained as a classical singer and violinist and have just released their debut single ‘Siren Song’ and recently made their international performing debut at Helsinki Drag Fest.

GERI FROM ONLYGRANS: Nathalie Fenwick is a Greek/Australian actress who cut her teeth in the Sydney theatre, film and TV scene having worked on projects such as ABC TV’s series ‘My Place’, Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Australia’ and Sydney Opera House’s ‘The City’. In the last couple of years Nathalie left Australia to train in Paris with Philippe Gaulier and has since been performing her show OnlyGrans both nationally around the UK (London, Brighton, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds) and internationally, touring in Australia to Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Only Grans will be hitting Edinburgh Fringe from 2nd - 16th August at The Street Bar, keep an eye on @onlygrans_official for tickets

The event will once again be hosted by returning compere duo Alice Flynn & Amanda Grace.

Curated and produced by award-winning company Dogmouth Theatre, this marks the 7th instalment of the smash-hit, sell out, jam-packed cabaret evening since the event began in Summer 2022.

This event is brought to you with the support of Reading Borough Council's Small Grant Scheme 2024/25.

Doors from 6:30pm, show starts at 7:30pm
