Reading World Music Festival

at Reading Minster

Join us for Reading’s first World Music Festival on Saturday 21st September!

An unmissable gig in the intimate and immersive setting of the Minster, Reading. The night will feature Afro-Euro Fusion by Limpopo Groove, Jazz and Blues by Ma Bessie and Harmonic Motion by Peter Doyle.

We aim to make this an annual event dedicated to showcasing local bands in aid of RSG. Help us build momentum by joining us this year!

Limpopo Groove

Limpopo Groove is an established, upbeat, afro-fusion group for all ages and walks of life. Formed in 2009 by Tomson Chauke, they play infectious, lively music, inspired by their drummer and founder’s African homeland. With original songs written in Shona and English, they blend afro jazz with tribal beats and European influences to create catchy rhythms that crowds just can’t help dancing to 

Ma Bessie

Julia aka Ma Bessie performs Jazz and Blues, celebrating the music of Bessie Smith and her contemporaries. With sell-out performances across the Thames Valley and a growing reputation for her intimate audience-focused performances.

Her Blues repertoire includes classics such as ‘Careless Love’, ‘Hound Dog’, ‘Ain’t Nobody’s Business’, ‘Do Your Duty’, ‘Summertime’, ‘Sugar in my bowl’ and many more while her reggae repertoire includes her own original material ‘All About You’, ‘Suffer’ alongside classic tracks including ‘Please Don’t Make Me Cry’, ‘Sweet Sensation’, ‘Hear My Cry’ and ‘One Love’.

Peter Doyle

Peter Doyle is a live looping artist aka The Live Looper since 2016 and played local community festivals such as Reading Fringe Festival (2019) Are You Listening Festival (2022) , Water Fest (2022) Down at the Abbey Festival (2021). Peter also played  at Glastonbuty Festival in 2022.
