The monumental project to complete Reading's Inner Distribution Road (IDR) took 20 years and, love it or hate it, the route is a fascinating circular walk around the town.

On this walk around the IDR you will be able to appreciate the road itself, the destruction that allowed it to be built, the heritage along the route and the new developments that are springing up around the road. 
There is a planned refreshment and comfort stop about two thirds of the way round. Wear comfortable shoes suitable for uneven surfaces. Toilets are available close to the beginning and end of the walk at the Oracle and are not far off the route at various points around the town centre.

Evelyn is chair of Reading Conservation Area Advisory Committee and interested in Reading architecture and heritage of all periods. She first became fascinated by the IDR and its place in Reading's physical and cultural heritage in 2018.
