On this walk you will enjoy the majestic River Thames, discover an amazing view over the town from Balmore Park, and explore Bugs Bottom and Mapledurham Park, before heading back to Reading Station via St Peter's Churchyard, Caversham Court and Caversham Bridge. We stride out at a moderate pace along pavement, gravel and woodland tracks, and encounter some quite long uphill and downhill sections and a set of steps at the entrance to Balmore Park (total ascent/descent 260 ft / 80 m). If the weather is kind, we may get to marvel at the sunset over the Thames. Note that this walk will finish just after sunset so we advise you to bring a torch. The walk is based on a Reading Council self-guided walk.

Please dress appropriately for a walk and having regard to the British weather!  Walking/trail shoes are advised.  Paths are mainly good firm surface, but a few sections may be rough and muddy in part, particularly after rain. A small rucksack is useful for personal items such as water, snacks, spare clothing/waterproofs, personal meds, etc.  This walk will finish just after sunset so“please remember to bring a torch!    There are no planned refreshment stops (nearest shop/pub etc in town centre, station, or Caversham). We may take short pauses for photos and points of interest along the way.    Toilets available at the Station or Caversham centre.
