Making Sense of Money: What Everyone Should Know About Finance

An open meeting - with a Presentation to Reading u3a by Dr Olga Klein

Retirement is not the end of your financial journey — it's one of its most important chapters. Whether your savings are sitting in a bank account, a pension fund, or an investment portfolio, the forces of time, inflation, and market dynamics are constantly at work on your money. This talk will give you the conceptual tools to understand why your money behaves the way it does, what is time value of money, inflation, bonds and stocks and finally will highlight the fundamental trade-off between risk and return.

Dr Olga Klein is an Associate Professor of Finance and a research fellow at the Gillmore Center for Financial Technology at Warwick Business School. She has also advised FCA on the future of digital finance in the UK, has developed and taught undergraduate, masters and PhD courses in market microstructure, advanced trading strategies, corporate finance and investment management.
