Berkshire & South Oxfordshire Churches: hidden gems & stories

Mon 24 Jul, Doors/Tea/Coffee 13:30, Talk begins at 1400

A secret wedding, an unexplained death which rocked the Royal Court, a political rally which could have damaged Cromwell's grip on power following the execution of Charles II – all stories associated with our local churches. Catherine Sampson’s talk offers a glimpse of some of the many historical, unusual and sometimes hidden churches and churchyards in and around Berkshire, as well as the people associated with them. Some you may be familiar with, others will reveal hidden stories.

Catherine is Chairman of Berkshire Family History Society and is particularly interested in how people lived in the past and uncovering their stories. She has published several books on family history, edited a compilation of old images of Purley and has a Masters in English Local History from Oxford.

All are welcome on Monday 24 July at 2 pm at the Abbey Baptist Church, Abbey Square. Doors open at 1.30 pm. A great opportunity to find out about hidden stories of our local churches and about Reading u3a.
