Artists of the Great War

A talk to Reading u3a by art historian Mike Grundy

During the First World War artists recorded and documented all aspects of the conflict from the violence of the fighting fronts to the social and industrial change at home. Art was seen as a means to remember the fallen and to provide effective propaganda. The images which were produced continue to shape our interpretations of the ‘Great War’.

For anyone interested in the art of that period, this presentation by Mike Grundy, an expert in the history of art and architecture, will be a treat. Mike studied the History of Art and Architecture at Birkbeck College, London, and has previously given an entertaining presentation to Reading u3a on the Art of the London Underground. Reading u3a is delighted to be welcoming him back on Monday 27 October.

To find out more about the significance of the artists who recorded the Great War, come along to this open meeting at Abbey Baptist Church, Reading. Non-members welcome, free entry. Visit www.readingu3a.org.uk.
