The Winged Soul by Lucinda Anderson

12 Aug 2026-15 Aug 2026

The Winged Soul takes inspiration from Plato's Phaedrus, in which the soul is described as striving towards truth, beauty and a higher reality once known but gradually forgotten. Plato believed that encounters with beauty awaken a memory of this deeper knowledge, allowing the soul to reconnect with something beyond ordinary perception.

The exhibition brings together new works by artist-in-residence Lucinda Anderson, whose practice explores perception, consciousness and transformation through oil painting and mixed media. Drawing on branching forms and growth patterns found throughout nature, Anderson creates a personal visual language that reflects the relationship between inner experience and the wider structures that shape human understanding.

Through layered surfaces and intuitive mark-making, the works invite contemplation of memory, connection, and the possibility that beneath the visible world lie patterns that are both ancient and familiar.

The Turbine House Riverside Museum from 12th-15th August 10-6pm.
Private View 15th August 10-6pm.
