Introduction to Islamic Design: practical workshop with artist, Hadil Tamim

Reading artist Hadil Tamim is a master of the complex and meticulous techniques that have been used for centuries to make exquisite Islamic designs. She obtained her professional degree in Ceramic and Islamic Decorative Art in Ankara, Turkey. In recent years she has adapted these traditional images to incorporate the buildings and flowers she particularly likes in Reading.
Hadil will lead you through a day exploring the processes and techniques involved. Using architectural and floral motifs found in and near the museum, she will help you to abstract them and think about how to organise them into intricate flowing designs. You will be introduced to the mirroring, repetition and geometry that lies at the heart of this way of painting as well as how to transfer drawings for filling with colour.
You do not have to be an artist to enjoy this but you should feel like one by the end of the day!
All materials provided. The day will include a lunch break. There is a café at the museum and plenty of places to eat nearby.
