We're all familiar with the Sheriff of Nottingham and his attempts to capture Robin Hood. How many know the High Sheriff of Berkshire? Or that he's a Humanist?
Alexander Barfield is the youngest ever High Sheriff. He's lived all his life in Berkshire being fostered in Maidenhead, then adopted in Wokingham where he attended Emmbrook School.
Alexander will talk about the office of Royal High Sheriff, including notable previous sheriffs. He'll also talk about his own story. Come along to find out more local history, and to ask question.
How does one get to be High Sheriff? How relevant is the role today? How did he become a Humanist? Does he get to meet the king? How do sheriffs support local volunteers? Is it the crown which blocks Reading from achieving city status?
Are you eligible to be a future High Sheriff of Berkshire?
Please come along and find out.
