The Royal Meteorological Society look back over 175 years and forwards

Eleanor Pinches (FRMetS), Education Officer of the Royal Meteorological Society will talk about the story of Meteorology over the last 175 years and look forward to future challenges and opportunities.

The Royal Meteorological Society has long been a pioneer in the field of meteorology and this year celebrates its 175th year! Guided by its charitable purpose and a commitment to excellence, RMetS’ mission is to advance the understanding of weather and climate and its applications for the benefit of everyone.



This is the first open public talk in Reading by the Royal Meteorological Society. It has been specially commissioned by the Reading Civic Society for HODs.



Eleanor Pinches (FRMetS), Education Officer, will take this opportunity to look back over the 175 years of history, picking out key advances and milestones and take a look forward to the opportunities and challenges that await us.



Reading is fitting location for such an event as not only is the Society office based in Reading, but the town plays a key role in weather and climate science. Take the Climate Stripes - a fairly recent but widely known symbol of climate change which were designed by Ed Hawkins of the University of Reading.



Like all HODs events this is free to attend. However donations are sought on the day to ccover the cost of the venue being opened by the Church
