Seven Last Words

Works by Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and more

This concert is a rare opportunity to hear one of Haydn's oratorios, reimagined in a novel way for choir and string quartet. Seven Last Words reflects on the words of Christ on the cross, a fitting piece as we approach the season of Lent. Haydn revered this work above many of his other compositions - significant praise indeed. We will also perform accompanied works by Beethoven (one of Haydn's pupils) and Mendelssohn , as well as a capella music by Antonio Lotti. This promises to be a moving and memorable evening of beautiful music, in the setting of one of central Reading's lovely churches, All Saints', Downshire Square.
