Durufle's Requiem

Reading Bach Choir opens our 60th anniversary season with a beautiful concert for choir, cello, and organ. Featuring Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, the concert also includes works by Becky McGlade, John Tavener, and a UK premiere by Nathalie Joachim.

Duruflé’s Requiem is choral masterwork that feels simultaneously timeless and thoroughly modern. Duruflé weaves a tapestry of Gregorian chant that envelops the listener in a comforting embrace while at the same time the undulating meters and harmonies lend a distinctively 20th-century feel to the work.
