Bonfire of the Vanities
Reflections on meditation and sin from the Renaissance to the 20th century
The inspiration for this concert is Shrove Tuesday. Florence. 1497. Books, art and other objects deemed sinful were burned on the enormous 'Bonfire of the Vanities' ordered by Savonarola. Byrd's Infelix ego features, his austerely beautiful setting of Savonarola's meditations. Come and reflect with us.
