Come and hear stories from the Whitley community and help us share them.
Whitley is home to some incredible people with inspiring and surprising stories.
At Our Memories, we hear the memories of selected local icons and then work with you to creatively share them. We use theatre, art, music, film and the written word and end with a performance to people from all over Reading.
- The sessions are open to anyone and there’s no skills or experience necessary.
- Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided
So come and join us on Tuesday nights, 6-8pm, at WCDA Cafe, 252 Northumberland Avenue.
In 2025, community members came to the cafe for the first sharing of Our Memories: Trisha and Bob’s story. Here’s what some of them had to say about the performance:
- “Excellent. It told a great story of Whitley. It helps to engender community spirit”
- “I enjoyed the imagination and learned about Whitley. That sense of community is so important these days”
- “Lovely, moving, heart-warming. Great to know its history.”
- “Just looking around the audience and seeing different people was evidence of the benefit”
- “There needs to be a wider audience... to show them the past and apply it to younger generations. It would surprise them and make them proud”
