Join Nature Nurture and Thames Water to discover the Turbine House and surrounding wildlife at Fobney Lock and Fobney Island Nature Reserve.
Join us for our Free Fobney Fun Day where you will get the chance to meet the wild creatures living around Fobney Lock and explore the Turbine House, where Thames Water will share its plans for its restoration. You may even get the opportunity to take a sneak peek inside the usually closed door!
There will be loads to do for everyone:
- See which Amazing Inventions kept the water flowing through Reading.
- See 'Matilda Too', the new Kennet & Avon Canal Trust boat.
- Waterway themed arts and crafts.
- Pond dipping and learning about freshwater ecology.
- Hear more about the canal's history and how you can enjoy it today with the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust.
- Bug hunting - with nets, ID charts and bug viewing pots.
- A watery welcome from our team of pirates.
- Waterway guided walks - exploring both nature and the heritage of this fascinating site.
- Get stuck into conservation with the Friends of Fobney Island team.
- History talks about Fobney Lock.
- Water saving and other eco-tips with the Thames Water outreach team.
Fobney Lock and Nature Reserve have a fascinating history to discover and we look forward to sharing it with you.
