No Big Sleep Out this year
We have taken the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s Big Sleep Out, which was due to take place on Saturday 6 July. This challenging call was made owing to fewer people signing up than expected.
Our Big Sleep Out event has two goals: to be a memorable night for everyone that takes part, and to raise vital funds to support vulnerable people in Reading.
With the event just three weeks away, based on sign up numbers there was a risk that the event would cost Launchpad more money than it would raise. Meaning it would take money away from our services, which we couldn’t justify. Everyone who did sign up has been contacted with this sad news.
Fiona Keyte, fundraising manager at Launchpad, said: “It was such a difficult and sad decision to make, and we would like to say sorry to everyone who had signed up to support us.
We wanted the Big Sleep Out to be a memorable evening filled with lots of supporters, a strong community spirit and everyone enjoying the entertainment.
We know that cancelling will be a disappointment to everyone that had signed up.
We are committed to helping anyone who would like to organise their own Big Sleep Out - at their home, school or workplace and will be promoting ‘Your Big Sleep Out in the coming weeks.
Securing donations is vital, to ensure that we can continue to deliver our much-needed work and we will adapt our activities to make this as easy as possible for our supporters to get involved.”

Swap your comfortable bed for a night under the stars to ensure others in Reading don’t have to.
On the 6 July the 18th Big Sleep Out, an overnight fundraiser, will be taking place in the University of Reading Whiteknight’s campus. The very place Launchpad started in 1979.
All money raised from this event will help people from across Reading avoid homelessness. These funds are vital, as Launchpad has seen a 30% increase in demand for its services, year on year.
The event begins with an evening of entertainment within the Meadow Suite on the University campus – which will include live music, a prize raffle, a hot meal, and talks from Launchpad staff and clients. After the evening’s entertainment, everyone will head out to the meadow to bed down for the night.
How to sign up
Registration for the Big Sleep Out is £24 per participant, or £22 if you take advantage of our early bird offer and sign up before the 31 May. Registration fees help cover the cost of evening and breakfast meals, and the cost of putting on the event. Launchpad are asking each participant to raise a minimum of £250. And everyone taking part will receive a fundraising guide to make this as easy as possible.
