... a celebration of the jazz 'engine room'

Tonight's Jazz in Progress spotlight will focus on drummer Gary Willcox as he explores the world of the 'jazz engine room' and pays homage to the playing and composing skills of such percussion giants as Kenny Clarke, Elvin Jones, Paul Motian, Jack de Johnette and Bill Stewart and their contribution to jazz from Bebop to ECM.

Gary started playing the drums at the age of ten and soon fell under the spell of Buddy Rich, Art Blakey and Max Roach. He has performed around the UK and Europe with Ian Shaw, Jim Mullen, Stan Sulzmann and Iain Bellamy to name but a few. He is a member of the Way Out West Collective and regularly appears at Ronnie Scott's as both a leader and sideman as well as working in music education.

Gary will be joined by four brilliantly creative musicians to perform music described by musician, composer and educator, Jerry Bergonzi, a long-time associate of the late-Dave Brubeck, as  "... inspiring and 'in the moment' playing."

He "Loved it." So will you!
