FROM THE WHITE MAN’S GRAVE TO CEMETERY JUNCTION: THE STORY OF MARY SMART by Richard Stowell
On the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery, Richard began researching the life of 16-year-old Mary Smart. She came to Reading from Sierra Leone in 1848 and was buried in Reading Cemetery. Richard has lived and worked in Sierra Leone and is in contact with Mary’s descendants in the UK.
Join us for this look at the life of an immigrant to Reading, as we celebrate Black History.
