-
The History of Reading Society are continuing their in person meetings at the Abbey Baptist Church, Abbey Square, Reading RG1 3BE, at 7.30pm (doors open 7pm) on Weds 15th November, when Joan Dils will be giving a talk entitled 'The Parish of St Gils, Reading During the Reformation c1536-1570'.
St Giles’ parish was urban yet with a substantial rural population, the poorest of the borough’s parishes yet boasting some very wealthy families. In contrast to its neighbours, it was a community which clung firmly to former religious practices. Discover more about this ancient parish of Reading with Joan Dils, a renowned local historian and tutor.
This meeting is open to members and visitors (visitors £2 each). No need to book, just turn up on the night.
