Beat Connection 2024
Heavy Pop presents an evening of live music, dancing and togetherness: BEAT CONNECTION
Full line-up: Deadletter / Mary in the Junkyard / Man/Woman/Chainsaw / Gag Salon + DJ Andrew Fursedon
DEADLETTER
“DEADLETTER are one of the most exciting new acts out there.” - DIY
“One of London’s most exciting bands” – So Young Magazine
Hailing from Yorkshire, now South London rooted, 6 piece DEADLETTER channel the droll fury of The Fall and the lopsided rhythms of LCD Soundsystem into a strain of vehement post-punk, exploring the darker side of existence through a lens of narrative-driven levity. With members being firm friends from birth, there is an instinctive understanding of movement and danceability to their music worth its’ weight in gold, whilst never cheapening the nuance and grit of their sound.
The band had a busy Summer performing at Reading and Truck Festivals, our own Are You Listening? And more. We can't wait for them to headline Beat Connection.
Mary in the Junkyard
“Mary In The Junkyard are the next great guitar band “ – DORK mag
“MITJ are the real deal”– DIY Mag
With their immersive live shows increasingly talked about, the experimental rock trio – comprising guitarist and vocalist Clari Freeman-Taylor, bassist and viola player Saya Barbaglia and drummer David Addiso join in Reading. In their short time, the emerging band have already performed at major festivals like Green Man, and have won plaudits from the likes of NME, DIY, The Line of Best Fit plus Dork mag’s 2024 Hype List. Their star is shining bright.
Man/Woman/Chainsaw
“Mixing humour with skilful musicianship and feverish energy, the six-piece make music that is brash and brassy” – NME
Man/Woman/Chainsaw, the London-based art punk band known for their gripping live set, return once more for the release of “What Lucy Found There” – a joyride through the sonic landscape that the six-piece have spent months crafting.
The group present us with cinematic arrangements, mauled by moments of cacophony; a mix of dramatic, almost haunting vocals and violins sit on the front row, complimented individually by snarling guitars, flashy keyboards and drums that could knock down a wall.
Gag Salon
“Art-rock four-piece Gag Salon are one of those bands who don’t play everything straight and boring” – Dork mag
Introducing Gag Salon, the surviving members of a function band gone up in flames, the guinea pigs of experimental surgery and new age psychotherapy. Fundamentally a pop group, Gag Salon invite you to interrogate the undesirable and exorcise your demons via LCD intensity and Beefheartian wonk.
DJ Andrew Fursedon
A long time friend of Heavy Pop, Andrew lugs his box of choice vinyl across town once again, to shepherd your ears throughout the evening. Expect grooves by way of guitars, electronica, funk and/or soul.
Previous Beat Connection artists include BC Camplight, Porridge Radio, Jane Weaver, Billie Marten, Matt Maltese and more.
