Find out more about the hidden history of Black British ballet from the 40s to the present day. Hear the stories of the pioneers, from those who were denied work in the UK to those who finally managed to smash the colour bar in Britain’s biggest companies.The talk is followed by a Q&A session.
Dr Sandie Bourne, a former dancer and now academic and researcher, has documented the history of black dancers in British ballet for her PhD and has since brought their stories to universities, dance institutions and communities around the world.
This presentation is part of a larger project celebrating Black British Ballet and will include sessions running into early 2027
